Module 2 - Design the Network Structure
Section 1 - Design the Topology
PH Network Services Corporation: Solution
1. Draw a topology that will meet PH Networks
requirements. In a few sentences, describe how your
topology meets its needs.
-
The ability to provide Frame Relay and ISDN support in the Cisco router
is important. PH Networks primary concern appears to be availability.
The Cisco router will provide the ability to add an ISDN PRI if needed.
The use of ISDN also provides a redundant path to the hospitals.
-
The customer specified 56-kbps Frame Relay and ISDN, which will be adequate
for terminal access to patients records. Using a Cisco switch will allow
the NetWare and SQL Server to be placed on Fast Ethernet ports. The Cisco
switch will provide good throughput to the SQL Server.
2. PH has brought up the question of telecommunication
failures. It has had numerous failures in the lines to
the hospitals. These are
critical communications and the company would like to known if anything
can be
done to reduce the chance
of these communication losses. What modification, if any, would you make
to
your design to accommodate
fail-safe operations to the hospitals?
-
A backup ISDN connection could be added to the hospitals. This backup will
provide a redundant route if the Frame Relay link fails.
