Module 1 - Identify Customer Needs
Section 2 - Extract New Customer Requirements
Pretty Paper Ltd.: Solution
1. On a separate sheet of paper, diagram the packet
flow of client/server traffic for the new business software
and traffic for the pattern
design documents for film production based on the requirements as you
understand them.

2. Identify the customers performance requirements.
-
Transaction processing time must be cut in half. This is a requirement
primarily on the new business software and the HP9000 system. The network
must not be inconsequential to this transaction process.
3. What concerns do you have for scalability if
the number of sales offices were to double over the next
two years?
-
Scalability should raise no real concerns, but might affect the router
selection.
4. The manager of Warehouse and Distribution is
concerned about PC client performance over the
Frame Relay network to
the new business software on the HP900 system. What design constraints
and consideration will
be taken into account for these concerns?
-
Obtain traffic characteristics of the application software from the vendor
or measure the characteristics with a protocol analyzer.
-
Select an appropriate Frame Relay CIR.
-
Possibly recommend use of network computers or Xterminals.
